This entry was posted in Tenant Organizing and tagged Jefferson East on by Zach Fairchild.
After the largest Detroit Police Department raid in years, the AmeriCorps Urban Safety Project followed up with the needs of residents of the Colony Arms apartments. The building is located in Detroit’s near east side. The intervention includes entering the building and pushing community organizing efforts to improve safety.
We are working in the building with residents setting up tenant meetings, sharing resources, moving forward crime prevention initiatives and putting pressure on building management to make the building a safe and livable environment for families. The building was described by Detroit Police as “the most problematic” in the city. During the raid over three dozen offenders were arrested.
